Black Point Settlement, Guana Cay Exumas     Latitude 24° 05.8N - Longitude 76° 24.3W

Although it seems like we are constantly "on-the-run" from the weather, the move from Staniel Cay and then to Big Majors Spot (great name for an island, eh?) turned out to be a good ones as the cold front brought howling winds and good sized waves.  Because we now have a good weather source (Chris Parker on USB 8.104 at 7:30 am) we can anticipate wind/sea conditions and find anchorages that keep us sheltered in the lee of their shores.   But as fronts have a tendency to do, the winds "kept clocking" and left no time to get settled for long.  With winds shifting back to Southeast, it was time to move again, this time to Black Point Settlement. One thing about storms is that you can count on the wind generator putting out some great amps and I am able to write with my computer hooked up to power from the inverter.  Unfortunately, the move to Big Major and then rapidly to Black Point eliminated my outing to Thunderball Cave that I promised you, but perhaps I'll get it on the way back.  I know you wouldn't want me out there in 25 knot winds in my dinghy—who knows where I'd end up (or the dinghy).

I also had to skip the ride to see the big wild pigs on Big Majors Spot, although even from a quarter of a mile away through the binoculars, I could get a sense of their largess.  Someone from Staniel Cay put these pigs on the island years ago and many of the boaters feed them their leftovers—apparently, from the size of them, all day long.  The pigs, were anything but wild, running up to the waters edge to await boaters, and also were in the company of a large herd of cats (or would that be flock, a gaggle, a pack? What is a group of cats, anyone know?) anyway, along with the three large pigs and 4 baby pigs, there were about 8 cats running around with the pigs on the beach waiting for boaters to come feed them. Pigs and cats, go figure.

With a pretty good wind and only two tacks, got to Black Point Settlement about 3:30pm and ran ashore to find the long-awaited internet service.  Found this at Lorraine's place.  I got a beer, a soda, and one hour of internet service for $10.00.  Not too bad, and Lorraine is a really nice lady.  We are working our way down to Georgetown, where we hope James Ofstein will send his old windlass (for a price of course) to replace the one that died in the last storm.  Now that the bow roller is fixed, it's time to replace the windlass and save the back strain caused by hand pulling the anchor!
