Galliott Cay Exumas     Latitude 23° 55.2N - Longitude 76° 17.3W

Left Little Farmer Cay due to overcrowding in the anchorage, not wanting to ride out a storm packing 25+ knot winds in such close proximity to other boats.   Galliott was just a few miles away and easy to get to with the few daylight hours left.  On the map it looked like a good place to hide out, but in reality, it had very strong current and a really narrow margin for error in anchoring due to sand bores located within the anchorage (we actually got stuck in one on the way in).  Sand Bores are moving sand banks that lie under the water surface.  They are hard to chart since they are in constant motion, and in areas of great current and water movement, they are particularly difficult to judge.  Remember, in this area, the water is so clear that it is difficult to 'read' the depth of the water by its color, so navigational mistakes can happen easily.  We left the next day for a better spot to ride out the storm and moved further south to Cave Cay.
