Boysie Cay, Exumas   Latitude 23° 43.5N - Longitude 76° 01.5 W

It's good to have a plan, but also plan to be flexible!  Trying to sail to Georgetown upwind caused us to make an intermediate stop at Boysie Cay.  It's amazing how little distance you can travel in a full day when you are zig-zagging all the way.   Exhausted, Boysie just happened to be the closest cut from Exuma Sound into the shelter of the banks, so with a couple of daylight hours remaining, we gave up the quest for Georgetown and settled instead for a quiet anchorage in which to have dinner and get some rest.  To my surprise, it was one of the most beautiful anchorages yet, and were it not for our goal to get to Georgetown to get a new windlass, and the fact that we are nearly out of gas for the dink (bring lots of gasoline, you won't find it around here), I would liked to have stayed to explore.    Boysie is located on a rather large 'inner lake' that harbors the settlements of Barretarre,  Rolleville, and Steventon on the North end of Great Exuma Island.  Although it is immense in size, the inner lake is quite shallow, requiring travel by dink (rather than a sailboat) unless you have a really shallow draft vessel.   All the settlements mentioned are quite traditional and have history worth delving into.  Also, the area has some interesting 'moonscapes' with rugged mounds and scattered reefs and cays that provoke exploration.   I'll just have to stock up on gas and make a return visit!
